What is Road Rage?

Road Rage is loss of emotional control while driving.
The phrase "road rage" officially entered the English language in 1997 when it was first listed in the New Words edition of the OED (Oxford English Dictionary).

Frustration and anger are key components in the creation of road rage. Being in control of the vehicle and one's self while driving seems a self-evident goal to most drivers, however external factors can affect a driver's control over their emotional state and result in loss of emotional control to a greater or lesser degree. Understanding and controlling anger and anger-motivated impulses must form an integral part of attitudinal training programs.

Often a road rage incident takes place because the driver is already a time-bomb waiting to go off. Their trigger at that moment is the straw that breaks the camel's back and all hell breaks loose. This may be triggered by someone cutting you off, a slow driver in front of you, someone stopping and inconveniencing you but in that moment, you have an adrenalin surge and lose control of yourself, desiring revenge!
